There is a model (3790) where the LCD, touchscreen and glass are glued with epoxy into the front bezel. I guess if I owned a broken one, I would have investigated into it further. I received a 2589 with a broken glass & digitizer and decided it wasn't worth the risk of possibly damaging it futher, not knowing whether the front adhesive bezel needed to be removed and replaced and where to find one. They can be rewired to make them work on most any unit as long as the screen size is the same. There are only (4) electrical lines, (2) for vertical (up/dwn) and (2) for horizonal (left/right). I'm not sure if the two models use the same touchscreen, although touchscreens can be easily rewired. On the 2589, there is a front adhesive bezel, just like you would find on a smart phone. On the 25, once you remove the rear screws, the front plastic bezel with LCD & touchscreen will separate from the rear case using a prying tool. There is a difference in the case style between a Nuvi 2555, 2595 and the 2589. I can tell you that we have been shipping items back to Canada for 7 years with US First Class mail and no insurance and have never had to file a claim for damaged or missing/lost items. Customs fees are charged when you buy something out of the country but not if the item is yours originally and just being sent out for repair and then returning. A new LCD will contain both the LCD and touchscreen & glass, this is why it is more expensive.Īs far as customs fees, no, there will be no fee if you specify on the customs form that the unit is being sent out for repair and then will be returning to the originating country. then the LCD is defective and needs to be replaced. If there is any distortion in the graphics/picture such as lines, splotches, spots, color defects, etc.

The touchscreen is bonded to the glass, so even if the glass isn't cracked but the touchscreen won't respond, you would still have to replace both touchscreen & glass because they are all one piece. Ok, if the glass is cracked and the unit will not accept any touch commands but the picture/graphics below the cracked glass are OK, then you would just need the touchscreen & glass. The displays are very expensive and given the amount of labor and costs in return shipping, we currently are not able to compete with the Nuvi 37xx factory repair price. You also have to take the entire unit apart, remove the boards, unlatch the flex cables, etc. Working on a new model for the first time is always an educational experience! I learned this the hard way by not looking at the replacement part first. The reason is because the LCD display is cemented into the front bezel and you will spend hours trying to chip away the epoxy only to find that the replacement LCD is also cemented into a the front half of a new case. If you have a cracked LCD display on a Nuvi 37xx, I would strongly suggest not to attempt to repair this yourself. There are (2) manufacturers for this display and they appear to be interchangeable.

The displays used in the 14xx and 25xx series are the same part number. If you break it, it is GAME OVER and you will have a very expensive desk paperweight.

The displays are quite thin and if you attempt to replace this yourself, I would be very careful inserting the display back into the front bezel, because if it is twisted or if you apply pressure unevenly, you can easily crack the LCD.īe VERY careful unlatching and latching the LCD flex cable.
